We went home to Palawan for the Labor Day weekend last May. As you all know, my mother’s side lived in Palawan. Whenever we have the time or there’s a holiday, Palawan would be the first place to go to. There are a lot of memories that happened in this place, memories that date back all the way to my childhood. Lola’s Bahay Kubo. Amelia Pensionne. Mama Pinang’s sari-sari store and her divine food concoctions. Kevin, my cousin the notorious who lived here until he was 9 then moved to Manila. All these memories I have greatly cherished growing up and this weekend was one more memory to add in my precious Palawan memory compartment.
THE Bahay Kubo
Aka bahay ni Lola. I was greatly delighted to see my Lola again. She used to stay with us in Manila until she finally decided to go back to her house here in Puerto. I haven’t seen her this radiant and happy. I guess the saying “There’s no other place like home” does ring true.
I missed Lola so much! Too bad, I didn’t get a picture taken with her. This is my tita.
I was so happy when I saw this salon in front of our house. The building where the salon is at is actually my tita’s so it was super convenient for us to go out of the house, go straight to this salon and get our nails done. Yeah!
Just the usual tricycle ride we always do when we’re in Puerto. I love the tricycles around here because it’s so big. It can fit four adults in the seat area comfortably and can even put maleta’s on a partition at the back. I wonder why Manila’s tricycles are not like the tricycles here. It would be a great convenience if they would copy Puerto’s trikes.
Crocodile Farm
We went to Crocodile Farm and although we’ve been here a lot of times already, it was still a bit of a thrill to see all those crocodiles, big and small. I remember when I was about six, I tripped here and I got a big bruise on my arm. Wonder why that often happens to me. I think I’ve been accident-prone all my life. Hahaha!
Hey mate! I’m holding a baby croc right iyuh!
And let me introduce to you, the Palawan Bearcat
He was exhausted trying to entertain all the tourists. Haha!
Baker’s Hill
We went up up on a hill and did some horseback riding and trampoline-jumping.
Sunset Boulevard
We went biking like old-school girls. Of course, it was me who did most of the biking.
Pandan Island
Of course, we cannot not go to Pandan Island. Since my family’s friends with the owner of Pandan, it was a given that we would be going to Pandan. And that island sure as hell did not disappoint the nth time around.
Would you look at that? Aint it pretty? 🙂
We went for a stroll around the island and when we were two/thirds at the back of the island, we saw this awesome view before our eyes.
There was an awesome sandbar!!!
It was a little far from the shore out back but it was certainly marvelous to see such an unexpected paragon.
We’re so hipster and gorgeous (feeling), I love it.
This was a great way to end the summer of 2012. And even greater was that I got to flip my way along the sand bar. That was pretty epic on my part.
Cheers and love,
Lauren
